My daughter, Laura, gave her heart to Jesus at age three. However, as a teen she decided being a Christian wasn't for her. Even so, Jesus has never given up and has kept his hand on her life despite her efforts to stray.
When she was eighteen, she traveled out of state to visit a friend. While there, the two of them went to a concert. Laura and I had discussed this particular band many times before. I agreed with her that they had a great sound, but their lyrics were especially offensive and blatantly anti-Jesus.
By a fluke, I learned that my daughter and her friend were on their way to this concert. From 700 miles away, there was little I could do to stop her. But I could pray.
That morning I talked to a woman who at one time had a wayward son. She said she used to pray, "Lord, send an angel to watch over him." Although I was skeptical, I prayed that prayer for Laura.
The next day I picked her up from the airport and asked her about the concert. She told me her eyes were opened to evil. "It was both beautiful and compelling, repulsive and horrifying." she said. Then she added, "This might sound weird, but I think the lead singer sold his sould to the devil. Do you think that's possible?"
We had a great discussion about that. Then she told me about a man wearing a bright yellow shirt with 'Jesus' on it who stood next to her during the entire concert. "He just stood there, not saying anything. Who wears a yellow Jesus shirt to a concert?" she asked. My heart pounded. An angel would, I thought. I don't know if the man was really an angel. But he was an answer to my prayer, if only to remind me that wherever my daughter goes, Jesus goes with her. That thought comforts me. Someday I pray it will comfort Laura, too.
